With Trey McDaniel taking the mound in game 1 against Mt View – Liberty, the state-ranked #4 Greenville Bears were in good hands in their season opener. McDaniel pitched a no-hitter striking out 14 batters and giving up 2 walks to take game 1 with a score of 4-0. Grant Miller doubled in 3 of the four runs in the 3rd inning when he came up with the bases loaded.
In game 2, Devin Duncan had a no-hitter going until the last out when a shot up the middle ended his run against the Alton Comets. The Bears had exploded in the 3rd inning with 10 runs and the game was ended by the clock after the 4th with the Bears winning 15-1.
The two games were part of Eminence’s Wood Bat Weekend featuring six high school and two jr high teams.
On the day, Devin Duncan went 4 for 6 and 3 RBIs with 2 singles, a double and a triple. Trynt Tompkins, Blakeney Kearbey and McDaniel all batted 500 and combined with 6 RBIs.
Ben Becker went 1 for 3 with a double to the right-centerfield wall earning 1 RBI. After two walks, Becker ended up with a .333 BA, .600 OBP, .667 SLG, and 1.267 OBPS.
